7.2.1 Descendants Article 82 (Law 4251/14) / Initial Issuance or Change of Residence Purpose

  1. Certified photocopy of a valid passport or other travel document recognized by our country and/or, in the case of a previous residence permit, certified photocopies of all pages of the passports covering its validity period.
  2. Residence permit or a copy of one of the following documents certifying legal residence in Greece: Type C entry visa/entry stamp or Type A certificateor Special Certificate of legal residence or Special Identity Card for Greek Expatriates (Ε.Δ.Τ.Ο.) or Identification Document of Recognized International Protection Beneficiary or Identification Document of an Applicant for International Protection, along with evidence of at least one year of residence in Greece prior to the marriage/civil partnership, or residence permit from another EU Member State provided that, on the date of submission, less than three months have passed since the date of entry.
  3. Printout of insurance capacity (direct – indirect) issued by a public insurance agency (EFKA – National Social Security Entity) with the submission of: A.M.K.A. – Social Security Number, Α.Μ.Α. – Social Security Member Registration Number, A.F.M. – Taxpayer Identification Number
    OR Insurance policy by a private insurance company
  4. Birth certificate or other official document issued by a Greek or foreign authority, officially certified and translated, proving the family relationship with the Greek citizen or the other spouse/partner.
  5. Solemn declaration by the Greek citizen that they live together and that he/she assumes the costs of maintenance and living expenses of the descendants in Greece.
  6. Certified copy of the Greek citizen’s identity card.
  7. Recent marriage certificate and/or Family Status Certificate of the Greek citizen.
  8. Documented evidence of material dependence on the Greek citizen or the other spouse in Greece or abroad, along with a declaration by the sponsor stating that the support is ongoing. The evidence may be in the form of a document issued by the competent authority of the country of origin or habitual residence, certifying that the family member in question is supported by the Greek citizen or the spouse/partner, or resided under the same roof in that country, or that there are serious health reasons requiring their personal care by the Greek citizen or the spouse/partner. The evidence may take the form of:
    • A document issued by the competent authority of the country of origin or habitual residence, certifying that the family member in question is supported by the Greek citizen or the spouse/partner or resided under the same roof in that country,
    • Medical certificates, certifying serious health reasonsrequiring their personal care by the Greek citizen or the spouse/partner,
    • Bank transfers,
    • Receipts of rent paid by the Greek citizen or the third-country national,
    • Tax declaration of the supported member showing no individual income, etc.

(Proof is required only for children over 21 years old)

  1. In the case of minors, an official document issued by a foreign authority showing the possibility of residence in Greece, if they are not joint descendants (e.g., decision of a foreign court, written agreement between the parents for the allocation of custody of the children, formally approved and legalized, written agreement between the parents allowing the residence of their child in Greece) (Required for minor children who are not joint descendants)
  2. Act of adoption, where required.
  3. Documents for the issuance of the card:
    • Four (4) recent, colored, passport-sized photos(40x60mm without a frame/high resolution/on a white background/neutral face expression, etc.), submitted also in digital form on an optical storage disk (CD) in JPEG 2000 format.
    • Card fee of 16 Euroscovering the printing of the separate document (electronic residence permit) (e-Paravolo / fee code 2119).
    • Official public document from the country of birth or origin, officially certified and translated, clearly stating the place of birth. The translation must also indicate the place of birth in Latin characters.(To be provided only if the passport does not show the place of birth in Latin characters).
